Freddie Hubbard (1938-2008)

An American jazz trupmeter. bebop, hard bop, post-bop styles from the early 1960s onwards.

A careful balance of bravado and subtlety -- own unique sound.

Louis Armstrong (1901-1971)

Satchmo, Satch, Pops. New Orleans. Moved to Chicaco with his mentor Joe Oliver and earned reputation. Moved New York City the nbecame a famous band soloist.

Raised in poverty. (his father ran away.) Karnoffskys, a family of Lithuanian Jews, helped him and purchased a cornet from a pawn shop for him.

"Every time I close my eyes blowing that trumpet of mine—I look right in the heart of good old New Orleans ... It has given me something to live for."

Dropped out of school and joined a quartet to make money when he was 11 yrs old. He went juvenile after arrested. Then, he played in rass bands and riverboats in New Orleans.
